The Permanently Closed Ontario Science Centre | Toronto Walk (June 2024)
A Toronto walk around the not yet open Science Centre Station at Eglinton and Don Mills. Then it's over to the recently closed Ontario Science Centre which was shuttered suddenly on Friday, June 21, 2024 by the provincial government.
The province has made it no secret that they want to close and (massively) downsize the Science Centre to a new location at Ontario Place.
See savesciencecentre.com/ for more details.
Recorded in 4K at 60 FPS on Tuesday, June 25, 2024.

Don Mills is an interesting road via the express bus north south. When I furs5 saw the bus route travelling from Pape North to Sheppard, the road and surrounding buildings seemed reminiscent of a developmental era in Canada during the 70’s-80’s.
I think people would actually respect Ford more if he just leaned into his corruption and laid out what he's doing instead of the public finding out anyway.
Although I’m in the UK I tune into CP24 regularly, and those Ontario PC ads really annoy me. I find it funny how they can attack Bonnie Crombie (who I don’t know much about) and then paint Doug Ford as a caring, compassionate Premier. To me he’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing. The whole thing with the Science Centre stinks so much I can smell it from here. It’s very ironic how we know that he wants to move it to Ontario Place with his chum’s spa, and yet the reports contradict his and the PC’s claims of how “bad” it is. And they don’t reconvene again until October 21st. It is just awful, corrupt, wrong, did I say corrupt?
Wow that boy in the begining of the VIDEO knows how to talk
50 years ago it was all the rage. Permanently closed, wow, sign of the times.
The science centre is not closing, It's moving. The place is in the Flemingdon hood
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
The exhibits were interesting but I don't think they have changed much over the years. It seems many of the spaces have been used for events for long time instead of displays what you would expect a museum / science centre will have. The IMAX theatre is just about the only worthwhile venue it has. The neighborhood (Thorncliffe) has been run down over the years and mostly taken over by newer immigrants from certain parts of the world.
Like, what exactly are you adding to the conversation by saying "newer immigrants from certain parts of the world""? Please, spell it out.
Apparently, the engineering report did not include closing down the Science Centre. That was Doug Ford's idea. You can bet money was involved . What has Ford got against human rights anyways? The Science Centre was built for the people. Unfortunately, Doug decided not to tell anyone. Just close it down without consulting the people of Toronto. Yesterday, Dougie went on You Tube to defend his decision, with the comments turned off. Nice. That is twice that Ford has given the people of Toronto the finger. There is a contractor who has offered to do the roof work for free. You think that will stop Dougie? When are Ontarians going to see Ford for what he is? An opportunist who got into politics to line his pockets and the pockets of his buddies with CASH. An opportunist who wanted to tear down the world's largest Green Belt, the Ontario Green Belt; a Greenbelt which are species needs for our very survival, and, yep, line his pockets and the pockets of his buddies with $$$$$$$$. Apparently the whole thing has been swept under a rug just like the Science Centre will. Have no fear though, Dougie is bringing BEER to the variety stores. Dougie believes that all Ontarians really need is BEER. Before you vote for Poilievre, think again. Look at Dougie and ask yourself an honest question; do you want Canada to be run like Ontario is being run right now?
Note that one of Dougie's Greenbelt pal owns the property beside the Science Centre 🤔
Turns out there are hundreds of buildings roofs exactly the same style all over Ontario ..VOTE this corrupt HEALHCARE DESTROYER out
The place is a dump that has been neglected over decade s and an embarrassment when compared to other science centres. This is no more than a community centre for the Don Mills Thorncliffe park area. Put it out of its misery
The displays haven't changed for many years. Went there with my kids few times in last couple of decades. As a museum freak myself, the Science Centre is a 1-visit place as there isn't anything that will be calling out to me to go back for 2nd deeper look.
The roof will collapse in June LOL. Not in the middle of winter but right at the start of summer. “Hey Folks” as Doug Ford would say, never was able to the grasp the importance of science. I imagine he would think this but, I could be wrong. Highly unlikely though.
Conservative is not respecting the people of Ontario who were there?
Butiful
The roof will collapse under the weight of Doug Fords BS
Lemme guess. You didn't know the science centre exisisted until last week
Why was it closed?
always back to governments .....
The local news reported that a risk of roof collapse on the building earlier this month. They decided to close down the whole centre on account of an engineer's report; thought it would be until the repairs are done (like for the summer) but hearing around how the government decided to shut it down indefinitely, not too surprising. They'd been discussing relocating the venue to another decades-long shutdown venue's location at Ontario Place by the Exhibition Grounds by the lake shore. While I would love to see Ontario Place's being revitalize again, it's something we'll be waiting a long time to happen, like the Eglinton Crosstown LTR (Line 5 of the TTC?) Too many projects in the city's works with not much getting finished, I'm thinking.
That's GOVERNMENT for you. They have other plans for this area so they used this excuse to close it down. If it is not generating a profit then it's a waste of money to them. I hate GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS
the blatant corruption is astonishing, i for one have family in Quebec and remember when Quebec roads were being paved with cheap concrete with kick backs to politicians and the mob.. Anyone else notice how roads are repaired or replaced every single year now, huge parking lots planned, highways to nowhere, public land being given away with seemingly no real logic?? something really wrong is going on here..
almost no one really cares about this couple days ago around 50 people demonstrated against closing it that is all they are trying to make it look like a big issue to attack ford politically
Sucks the science centre is going away I remember always going to the science centre when I was kid now it’s closed it’s so sad to be honest
Good morning everyone
Not Doug Fords Fault
???? In what way?
Fatty Ford got to go. He is getting rid an educational facility for kids and turn into the casino for the mafia. Shame.
I really hope the Science Center doesn't move and Ford doesn't get all the land that he wants for redevelopment. Because that is what he's really after. We need greenspace and waterways in the city for our mental health, biking, walking, wildlife, oxygen and for rain run off. In 2020 I took a trip to Port Hope... OMG ... all the farms along hwy 7 " gone "... Ford Leave Our greenspace and farm land alone. we don't want to relay on other countries for all our food supply. Thanks Johnny
good morning everyone

Nice post
Good video Johnny
Nice streaming Johnny
What a terrible thing Ford decided to do. This was an iconic attraction loved by so many children and adults; from its modernist architecture to the great exhibits it had. I can’t believe it had to end that way when they could literally repair it. When I was a bus driver at Eglinton division 10-20 years ago, I drove the Don Mills and Eglinton East buses respectively. I picked up and dropped off lots of school groups, families and children who were going to and from the Science Centre. Lots.
almost no one really cares about this couple days ago around 50 people demonstrated against closing it that is all they are trying to make it look like a big issue to attack ford politically
@@rayhann8626 Slow clap for you, bud.
@@lisadeeyoung you can scream to the sky as well my guy
Ford is a crook
A visit to Science Centre in the 90s Also, LOL, is it pay to get in to Ontario Place? 1993 1st time in T.O. not understanding closed CNE grounds and confusing area, and walked into Ontario Place thru some way.
Thank You Johnny for doing a video of my old stomping ground and the Science Center I was wishing you would have checked out Sunnybrook Stables
Flemo
i was at that very intersection today wondering how many people unboarding the buses collide with bikes..
Enjoyed the walk.
🇨🇦
Hey Johnny! Just wanted to say again that it was awesome meeting you today! And yes, I am the Jack from the video.
Very sad to hear about the Science Centre closing. A tragedy indeed after years of neglect by the government. Sacrificed for a spa…seriously….? Oh, and just in time for completion of the aptly named Science Centre subway stop - nice one Doug 😤
I missed the livestream 🤦♀️
Thanks for this interesting livestream Johnny, it’s sad that the Ontario Science Centre won’t be at Don Mills and Eglinton anymore and that it’s gonna be moving to Ontario Place which is just a waste of money and the environment.
Ontario Science Centre was the first interactive science centre in the world :(
Всем привет! Отличное видео, Джонни!
